WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Youth Programs here on Hanscom AFB offers high-quality, developmentally appropriate programming in seven areas: (1) Character and Leadership Development, (2) Education and Career Development, (3) Health and Life Skills, (4) The Arts, (5) Informal Sports, Fitness and Recreation, (6) School Age Program and (7) 4-H.

We offer a wide variety of activities for preteens and teens, including: Boys & Girls Clubs & 4-H; Red Cross Babysitter & smart start; sports camps & clinics; health & fitness programs; a variety of trips; and much more!

Ask at the front desk for this month's calendar.

DANCE CLASSES

Classes run from September to June. A minimum of 7 children are needed for each class to begin.$15 registration fee per child. For questions or for more information, please contact the Youth Center at (781) 225-6043.

  • HAPPY GYM ages 3-4 | Tuesdays, 5-5:30 p.m.
    Happy Gym is a perceptual motor development and movement education program with special emphasis on floor gymnastics to develop basic gymnastic skills.
  • HAPPY DANCE 1 ages 3-4 | Tuesdays, 5-6 p.m.
    Happy Dance 1 is a planned developmental dance/movement and fitness program stressing the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics and creative dance while blending educational concepts. For students with no prior dance experience.
  • HAPPY DANCE 2 ages 4-6 | Tuesdays, 6-7 p.m.
    Happy Dance 2 is a planned developmental dance/movement and fitness program stressing the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics and creative dance while blending educational concepts. Prerequisite: Happy Dance 1 | For students with 1-2 years dance experience.

TEEN NIGHTS

Fridays 7-10:30 p.m. & Saturdays 6-10:30 p.m.

Join us for movie nights, "on the moment" trips, pool torunaments, 3 on 3 basketball, video game tournaments, and more!

Teen patrons must be members (it's free!) applications are available at the Youth Center. Must be age 13-18.

HANSCOM TEEN COUNCIL

Acheive academic success | explore future careers | make a difference

Meetings held Saturdays 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Open to ages 13-18. Call 781-225-6043 for more informaiton.

SUMMER CAMP

Camp Adventure | Creative weekly themes set the tone for an interactive summer program for children ages 9-13 at the Youth Center. Youth ages 14 and up can apply to be Junior Counselors. Camps run each week Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Camp offers exciting themes, age appropriate activitie s, arts & crafts, games, music, physical activities and lots of fun. Special weekly activities include swimming, bowling, field trips, special events and more. Cost varies based on total family income. Register at the Youth Center.

SPORTS

The Youth Sports Program has partnered with local town recreation departments
so we can continue to provide fun, safe, developmentally appropriate sports activities for children to learn, grow and excel at their own pace and ability while teaching individual sport skills, sportsmanship, teamwork and sense of community. We feel the athletic field is the arena where children can have fun, make new friends, and learn new skills and build on existing ones. The importance of participation, physical fitness, social interaction, leadership development, sportsmanship, teamwork and the importance of academics in relation to sports at all levels are stressed.

  • ONLINE | Visit www.BedfordRecreation.org and click “Register Online” (in the lefthand menu towards the bottom). NOTE to first time users: account holder must be an adult; DO NOT set up account using child’s name and info. Please register multiple children or multiple programs all in one transaction.

Please note that we do not accept phone registrations. All registration is limited. Receipts will be mailed. Wait list status will be indicated on the receipts if the session you choose is full. Classes will NOT be prorated. Requests for financial assistance must be made at the time of registration (Recreation Financial Assistance form must be submitted with registration form).

PLEASE NOTE, HANSCOM AFB FAMILIES ARE EXEMPT FROM THE $5 NON-RESIDENT FEE.

General refund/cancellation procedures for Bedford town sports:

  • Cancellation fee: $10 for each program canceled before the first class. After the first class, we will also deduct for each class held. No refund after the 3rd class.
  • Special Events/Activities and Field Trips: no refunds
  • Classes that are not self-supporting (due to low enrollment) will be canceled.
  • The above refund policies do not apply to programs for which other refund policies are stated.

Fees are subject to change (with a 30-day notice) and vary by program. Lost card? Replacement of membership cards is $1 for the first card, $3 for the second and $5 for each subsequent card.

Our sports and instructional programs have various age restrictions. When specified, younger children — as well as adults — may participate in activities sponsored by Youth Programs, including special events and instructional programs.

Hanscom's School Age Program serves military personnel and civilian employees by providing a caring, positive environment for their children. We offer before- and after school care as well as vacation & summer camps.

The “Clubhouse” is our interactive before- and after-school program designed for grades K-6. It's designed to complement the educational system with fun and innovative programming.

We offer age-appropriate playgrounds, a computer lab and resource room. We continually hire professional staff to complement our expanding program.

Mission Statement: The School Age Program has been designed to encourage growth, socialization and learning in an environment that is conducive to our children's development. The "Clubhouse" rooms are designated into "interest areas" incorporating dramatic play, construction, arts and crafts, science, computer, library and literacy into your child's daily activities. Our dedicated and professional staff works continually to challenge the children with new and thrilling activities both indoor and outdoors. Our goal is to serve military personnel and civilian employees by providing a caring, positive environment for their children.

Boys & Girls Club
Hanscom's Youth Programs are affiliated with Boys & Girls Club of America, a national organization with a mission to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. One of the most important principles of the Boys & Girls Club "movement" is the assurance of fun and interesting experiences. Along with personal relationships with YP staff, the experiences and opportunities for youth establish principles that, while each is important, collectively they have a deep impact on the lives of young people.
