What's Happening?
 

Youth Programs here on Hanscom AFB offers high-quality, developmentally appropriate programming in seven areas: (1) Character and Leadership Development, (2) Education and Career Development, (3) Health and Life Skills, (4) The Arts, (5) Informal Sports, Fitness and Recreation, (6) School Age Program and (7) 4-H.

We offer a wide variety of activities for preteens and teens, including: Boys & Girls Clubs & 4-H; music & voice instructional classes; Red Cross Babysitter & Home Alone classes; smart start; sports camps & clinics; health & fitness programs; a variety of trips; and much more!

Costume Ball   Costume Ball & Pre-Teen Lock-In

Pre-teens are invited to a lock-in at the Youth Center on Friday, October 24 at 8 p.m. to Saturday, October 25 at 8 a.m. Wear a costume and join us for a night of fun! There will be dancing, cooking activities and more! Cost is $25.

Nightmare on Marrett Street  

Nightmare on Marrett Street

Come and discover the HORROR that is the Nightmare on Marrett Street! Teens are invited for an over-night at the Youth Center from Friday, October 31 at 10 p.m. to Saturday, November 1 at 8 a.m. You'll have a CHILLING good time! There will be games, cooking activities, a costume contest and a FEAR FACTOR challenge! Cost is $20 per person.

Please bring an appropriate costume for the costume contest. Participants are asked to bring a store bought snack donation. No homemade snacks.

Celebrate the Month of the Military Family with these Great Events at the Youth Center!

Family Dinner & Game Night | Wed., Nov 5th
This FREE event at the Youth Center kicks off at 5 p.m. with the reading of the Month of the Military Family Presidential proclamation by the base commander. Dinner will be provided. Activities including board games, bounce house, crafts and more.

Thanksgiving Feast | Wed., Nov 12th
The Youth Center staff invites Youth Center members and their families to join us on Wednesday, November 12 at 12:30 p.m. for a celebration of THANKS: Thanks for your support, thanks for participating and thanks for YOU! Lunch costs $3.50 per person and includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, dessert and a drink.

Youth Deployment Camp | Sat., Nov 22nd
Youth, ages 9-16 years old, are invited to participate in a mock deployment exercise in honor of November’s Month of the Military Family on Saturday, November 22. Participants are to report to the Youth Center at 9 a.m. where they will process through the deployment function line.  Next, participants will deploy to Hanscom's Camp Patriot at 10:30 a.m. where they will rotate through a series of events, including physical training exercises and other various demonstrations. Participants will also receive care packages and lunch while deployed. The Youth Center will be open from 9-10:30 a.m. for families to create welcome home signs and care packages for their deployed youth participants.  The deployment vans will leave Camp Patriot at 2:15 p.m. and return to the Youth Center where families, guests and base personnel are invited for a Welcome Home Celebration. This is an exciting opportunity for youth to get a taste of what their parents experience during deployment!
Registration open now for youth of deployed service members or those deploying within the next 60 days.  Youth of active duty members may register after October. Children of deployed and active duty service members are given priority. All other eligible patrons may register after November 7. Limited spots available. Cost is $5 per person.

Happy Gym Happy Gym
Happy Gym is a perceptual motor development and movement education program with special emphasis on floor gymnastics to develop basic gymnastic skills.

Tuesdays, 5:00-5:30 p.m.

Happy Dance 1 Happy Dance 1
Happy Dance 1 is a planned developmental dance/movement and fitness program stressing the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics and creative dance while blending educational concepts. For students with no prior dance experience.

Tuesdays, 5-6 p.m.
$52 per month
Happy Dance 2 Happy Dance 2
Happy Dance 2 is a planned developmental dance/movement and fitness program stressing the basics of ballet, tap, acrobatics and creative dance while blending educational concepts. Prerequisite: Happy Dance 1 | For students with 1-2 years dance experience.

Tuesdays, 6-7 p.m.
$52 per month
A minimum of 7 children are needed for each class to begin. $15 registration fee per child.

Youth Sports

The Youth Sports Program has partnered with local town recreation departments
so we can continue to provide fun, safe, developmentally appropriate sports activities for children to learn, grow and excel at their own pace and ability while teaching individual sport skills, sportsmanship, teamwork and sense of community. We feel the athletic field is the arena where children can have fun, make new friends, and learn new skills and build on existing ones. The importance of participation, physical fitness, social interaction, leadership development, sportsmanship, teamwork and the importance of academics in relation to sports at all levels are stressed.


 
Camp Adventure Camp Adventure

Creative weekly themes set the tone for an interactive summer program for children ages 9-13 at the Youth Center. Youth ages 14 and up can apply to be Junior Counselors. Camps run each week Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Camp offers exciting themes, age appropriate acctivitie s, arts & crafts, games, music, physical activities and lots of fun. Special weekly activities include swimming, bowling, field trips, special events and more. Families may register for desired weeks at least 2 weeks in advance. Cost varies based on total family income. Register now at the Youth Center.

Youth Summer Running Club met Thursdays during the spring and summer at Youth Programs. The club ran for 12 weeks for just $40. Receive a t-shirt and water bottle for registering.

Please note that we do not accept phone registrations. All registration is limited. Receipts will be mailed. Wait list status will be indicated on the receipts if the session you choose is full. Classes will NOT be prorated. Requests for financial assistance must be made at the time of registration (Recreation Financial Assistance form must be submitted with registration form).

PLEASE NOTE, HANSCOM AFB FAMILIES ARE EXEMPT FROM THE $5 NON-RESIDENT FEE.

General refund/cancellation procedures for Bedford town sports:

  • Cancellation fee: $10 for each program canceled before the first class. After the first class, we will also deduct for each class held. No refund after the 3rd class.
  • Special Events/Activities and Field Trips: no refunds
  • Classes that are not self-supporting (due to low enrollment) will be canceled.
  • The above refund policies do not apply to programs for which other refund policies are stated.

Youth Programs provides opportunities for youth to develop their physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities and to experience achievement, leadership, enjoyment, friendship and recognition.

Youth programs provides a wide variety of services and activities for children 5 years to 18 years of age including before and after school (SA) programs, full day camps during summer vacation and school holidays, youth transition and support services.

The School Age Program complements, rather than duplicates, the school day. The School Age “Clubhouse” is an interactive before- and after-school program designed for grades K-6.

The Youth Center caters to ages 9-18 with sports, instructional programs, classes, trips and more.

Our sports and instructional programs have various age restrictions. When specified, younger children — as well as adults — may participate in activities sponsored by Youth Programs, including special events and instructional programs.

*Must be active for eligibility in School Age program | ** not eligible for School Age program | *** contractors must physically work on Hanscom AFB

  Fees are subject to change (with a 30-day notice) and vary by program. Lost card? Replacement of membership cards is $1 for the first card, $3 for the second and $5 for each subsequent card.

Hanscom's Youth Programs are affiliated with Boys & Girls Club of America, a national organization with a mission to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. One of the most important principles of the Boys & Girls Club "movement" is the assurance of fun and interesting experiences. Along with personal relationships with YP staff, the experiences and opportunities for youth establish principles that, while each is important, collectively they have a deep impact on the lives of young people.
